High-performance transmission for round balers

Challenge

A major agricultural equipment manufacturer required a transmission system for round balers that could handle high inertia loads, prevent sudden stops, and ensure long-term durability under intensive working conditions.

Solution

Eurocardan and BRM Gearboxes have developed an advanced powertrain solution, integrating the BRM RA170 transmission unit with an extension to connect to the Eurocardan Plus Constant Velocity (CV) Joint PTO shaft, size 8, featuring a cam clutch safety device with freewheel (LDR-MR).

Helical toothed gears, designed for quieter operation and improved performance.

1. Cast iron housings

The cast iron housings are machined on state-of-the-art machining centers and inspected with coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to ensure precision and quality.

1. Gears and shafts

The gears and shafts are designed using specialized software, manufactured through precise mechanical processes, and subjected to specific heat treatments, ensuring long-lasting resistance to high torque loads.

2. Combined LDR-MR device

The combined LDR-MR device ensures reliability and endurance even under intense working conditions, integrating the RF freewheel with the LDR automatic torque limiter to offer the benefits of both safety systems. Motion is transmitted in one direction of rotation, effectively handling high rotational inertia and absorbing torque feedback of up to 2,000 Nm during deceleration and stopping.

3. Special Plus cross

Special Plus crosses with deep-drawn outer bearings and oversized rollers, designed to offer up to 6 times more strength than standard crosses.

4. Ring nut

Ring nut made of special material containing graphite, which reduces friction and improves sliding performance.

5. Homokinetic 80° Plus homokinetic transmission

The Homokinetic 80° Plus homokinetic transmission features a centralised greasing system (HDL) that ensures complete lubrication of the joint. Hermetically sealed floating discs prevent dust ingress and lubricant leakage, while special crosses and a triple lip sealing system extend the life of the transmission, allowing lubrication intervals of up to 250 hours.

6. Quick Pin® System

The Quick Pin® system allows quick and safe engagement of the end yokes by means of a pre-loaded button. This mechanism greatly simplifies the installation of the end yoke on the PTO.
